CORSICA EASTER SESSIONS – PART 3

Hey everybody!

All good things come to an end, so here it is: The last part of the Team Liquidlogic 2010 Corsica kayak sessions. The rivers you see in this part are the famous Fium Orbo, Rizzanese and the Travo. Esp. on this steep creeks the Jefe showed up its boof performance and speed to challange big drops and nasty backwashes.

Rizzanese - Jan doing a mega boof with his Liquidlogic Jefe

The sad thing about this trip is, that this year was one of the last ones you could paddle the Rizzanese. The French national energy supplier EDF is building a huge dam with an hydro-electric power plant. So the upper and standard section of this classic Corsican whitewater river will be lost in nearer future!

Nevertheless enjoy some of the last pictures of the Rizzanese.

On a wave, Max

Moinsen,

Fium Orbo - Max boofing Double Drop

CORSICA EASTER SESSIONS – PART 2

Please scroll down for the English text.

As I packed  the opportunity several times before, I did start the season this year on the island again.  There might be no other moment that would let beating my Creekerheart stronger than as when I wake up on the ferry and the port of Bastia is so close that you think you could swim to over there.  The whole scene on this island is unique – as the local people too. I must say I kind of like it. The many oblique glances when I stroll through a village as a tourist, the honking when I sleep somewhere roadsided, the fishermen, the one with red neck and blue head throwing stones after us and slitting and at least two tires of our car. It is not the first time I experience this, it’s a funny feeling, and nevertheless I always like to come back. Corsica is the birth place of creeking, and that is reason enough I guess!

According to the motto more facts than words here some moving impressions:

Corsica Easter Sessions – Part 1

Lower Golo, The Hoover / Staubsauger - Max Eberl

Every year at Easter many European kayakers start their Corsica-pilgrimage. The Meet & Greet already starts on the ferry and first information about the levels make the circuit. But before joining the others kayakers on the ferry we had to pass the height control while going on the ferry, with a little bit of creativity there were no problems ;-)

About 1 p.m. we arrived at Bastia, without a break we made it to the Middle Golo, one of the standard runs on Corsica. It’s a good section to start kayaking after a long car trip.

The second day we did the lower Vecchio and the Tavignano gorge, also easy whitewater sections which offer a beautiful landscape and are absolutly a must run on Corsica.

Fredl Fölkl (Team Kober), Jan Torge (Team Audi :-D ),

Julian Mihé (Team Kober & Fluid Kayaks)

The next day the Middle Vecchio was on our agenda. This section is typical Corsican whitewater. Many narrow passages which have to be scouted intensely because many siphons are waiting for careless kayakers. All in all this section is a vision for kayakers with many cool drops and challenging cataracts.
