Xcreek – the first race of the season

The Xcreek is small but lively kayaking event part of X2 Festival. X2 is a multisport event similar to Voss´s Ekstremsportveko , just smaller and earlier in the season.  X2 is based in the Volda and Ørsta communities with stunning surroundings, white peaks straight down to the fjord and of course excellent kayaking and skiing.

What more can you ask for to start the season when the rivers are super high and temperature is increasing fast when the sun comes out. Despite the rain Xcreek had a good competition, classic carnage and sweet lines with nearly 200 people lining the banks. I gambled the Remix on the first run with a risky move on the S-bend and lost it all,  putting me behind Dag Sandvik and Mark Basso. After the race we had a great party with free champagne and good music at the local student house Rokken.  Next year this race will be bigger and better. It would be great to have more international paddlers on the start list in the future  so I hope we can see more international paddlers at the start list in future. 1st place Dag Sandvik – 2nd Place Mark Basso (LL Remix 79) – 3rd place Benjamin Hjort (LL Remix 69) – 4th Place Julian Stocker – 5th place Karl Engen

Mexico

Mariann Sæther posted a great blog about our last trip to Mexico.

Oh mine, I knew I would love Mexico. Warm weather, friendlly people, amazing food, and great whitewater!

Teaming up with kiwi brothers James and Mike Dawson, all-time good friend Benjamin Hjort and Germans Anne Hubner and Seppi Strohmeier, and Piahmin (Little German), we were set for a great 12 days in the country. Our sweet little rental car brought us safely from Mexico City to the hopping town of Tlapacoyan, and I am way impressed by Rallydriver James and his handling of speedbumps with the lowest car ever! We even managed to fit 7 boats on the roof one day, with 7 people inside it, without roofracks. That is what I call professionals, ha ha!
